Liebster Award

liebster21Rachel Stolzman has sprinkled some love on my blog by presenting me with the Liebster Award. In turn I will attempt to answer 11 questions as well as furnish 11 random facts about myself.

1. What is your ideal vacation?

My ideal vacation would involve travelling around the country and digging for records at thrift stores while taking in the scenery. For something more relaxing, I would go with my wife to some hot springs or something of that nature.

2. What was your first job?

Newspaper delivery boy.

3. What motivates you to post on your blog?

Music, primarily the need to share it as it was shared with me when I was searching for something outside of the normal commercial realm. I’m also usually documenting something I’m working on whether it be a solo experimental performance or something involving my band, both things that I’m very proud of.

4. Name a book that you recently finished reading.

Ha! I currently have a few books going and I can’t remember the last one I finished. I’ve recently read ‘Brion Gyson: Tuning into the Multi Media Age’ and am currently working on ‘Austin Osman Spare The Occult Life of London’s Legendary Artist’, Sastun by Rosita Arvigo and for trash I’m reading ‘Motley Crue: The Dirt’.

I generally like bios and ‘Letters’ and stuff of an esoteric nature, books on artists lives philosophers, thinkers, pop icons and lesser known underground music artists etc.

5. What is your opinion of reality TV shows?

I don’t watch much tv.

6. How do you feel when a snowstorm hits your area and everything is cancelled for the day?

I’ve lived in California for the past 18 years but I did grow up in Buffalo, NY and My distant memory of everything shutting down during a snowstorm is a fond one, the possibilities…

7. If you could obtain dual citizenship in another country, which county would you chose, and why?

Essentially anywhere with healthcare.

Because they have healthcare

8.What is your pet peeve with WordPress?

Not much to complain about as of yet.

9. Recently, I saw a study claiming that people who read fiction tend to be more empathetic. This study has generated controversy in my household. What is your opinion about this “finding?”

Well, above I mention my favorite genre of literature to be bios, letters and ‘Lives’ etc. and I like to think I’m pretty empatetic. My wife is a huge fiction reader and she is also quite empathetic, so I guess I don’t have much of an opinion either way.

10. Did you believe in Santa Claus when you were a child?

11. How do you prefer to learn about world news – through the internet? Through the television? Through a newspaper or magazine?

I don’t have a prefered method of obtaining world news and frankly, I avoid it as much as possible as I’m usually too busy trying to ‘go’ somewhere in my art or music and those things rarely have anything to do with worldly affairs. Yes, things get through, of course, but I try my best to stay comfortably distant yet aware of certain world happenings. That being said, I am more sensitive to universal shifts and there are no news channels or periodicals for that!

11 Random facts about myself:

1. I studied Martial Arts from ages 9-12 and competed in and won multiple regional tournaments. I used to get migraines during these events which led me to sort of wander off and not study any more.

2. I don’t like lamb.

3. I stopped wearing headphones back in high school (1988-1992) so I would be more aware of my surroundings and so that my music wouldn’t be so directly influenced by other music. I only recently started wearing headphones again since I’ve been recording more as of late and it’s a good way to audition music in different settings.

4. I’ve never worn earbuds.

5. I own over 5000 vinyl records spanning many genres of music.

6. I don’t have a drivers license.

7. I’ve never driven a car.

8. I lived in Los Angeles for almost 9 years without a car or drivers license.

9. I am not a sports fan, but I do like ice hockey.

10. I wear glasses.

11. I’ve never been in a fight.

I have been enjoying these music focused blogs as of late and would like to nominate Ambient Landscape, Hypnagogue Podcast, and Headphone Commute, for keeping an ear to the ground and curating quality sounds.
