European Tour Journal Day 1 and 2 (Pescara, Italy)

FIRST DEPLOYMENT

Ziggy an Jonesy flew out a day or so ahead of the rest of us. They sent back pics of them at the airport in Rome where they ran into East Bay Ray! Coincidental and Ironic in a sense because TMODM was on Alternative Tentacles at one point.

They also caught up with Heavy Psych Sounds label honcho Gabriele Fiori to plot our trail of destruction through Europe.

SECOND DEPLOYMENT

2018-02-08 17.49.53

The rest of us, drummer Chris Lyman, guitarist Nick Doom and myself departed from SFO on time and enjoyed an 8 hour flight to Dublin. The flight was sparse, so some of us got some rest.

We had a brief layover in Dublin, where we enjoyed tiny cupcakes to celebrate being in Europe. Then we flew on to Rome where we got picked up and driven to Heavy Psych headquarters. We got some much needed rest in order to prepare for our first show in Southern Italy.

We checked out the area. Saw this old wall and some shroomy graffiti.

Had to get some risotto in me stat! We enjoyed the local diner which was really affordable compared to what they charge in SF for this sort of cuisine.

At one point we stopped to visit The Adriatic Sea up close:

THE VENUE

Our first show was at Scumm in Pescara, Italy. The building seemed really old but I never got a chance to ask about it. That scene was cool because it was basically a couple of alleys with various things going on including our thing.

There were cafes and nightclubs with dance music and some other spaces with artistic happenings. Groups of people could go do whatever and then convene in the alley to smoke cigarrettes and talk.

There was even this really cool Victorian era dance thing going on a few doors down from us:

Our merch booth was tight

Here’s a short excerpt from our set. The room was really dark and we were a little jet lagged and settling into the gear for the first time, but it was good to get out there.

    1. Everywhere we went, there was a visible disdain for anything of that nature. There were stickers in all the clubs a ton of graffiti in the almost every city we played that supported anti fascist, anti nazi, anti racist messages. We felt welcome everywhere.

      1. I’m sure it’s all where you go. The media portrays one thing and down on the ground you hear a different message from the people. Same with the perception of the U.S. we spent plenty of time letting people know we aren’t all ‘ham-and-eggers’ who love guns and Trump and baseball hats.
